A listing of required, approved, and miscellaneous gaming materials.  Amazon.com seems to consistently have the best prices.  Check out their D&D store here, or click on each book to be brought to that specific page at Amazon.com.
OPTIONAL
D&D 3E Character Sheets.  Class specific character sheets, generic character sheets, spell sheets and sheets for animal companions & familiars.  Many of the sheets can be found on the web, but it is packaged here in a neat format and you get the right to photocopy sheets for personal use.
OPTIONAL
The Dungeon Masters Guide is the second of the three core rulebooks.  Players do not have to have this, but reading the DMG will provide a lot of insights on how the game is run.  Required if you plan to run a game of your own.
OPTIONAL
The Manual of the Planes is the sourcebook for planar adventuring.  It contains a great background on the planes, along with planar-specific spells & prestige classes.  I am currently evaluating this for use in my campaign, but it is interesting reading nonetheless.
MISCELLANEOUS - NOT APPROVED FOR CAMPAIGN
The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting is the sourcebook for running a campaign based in the Forgotten Realms (naturally).  Since my campaign is based in Greyhawk, the FRCS is not approved for use.  The book is however, a great resource for running a Forgotten Realms based game.  It is also very interesting reading if you are a fan of the novels set in Faerûn.
RECOMMENDED
Song and Silence is the class handbook for rogues and bards.  New feats, prestige classes, organizations and spells are included.
  RECOMMENDED
Masters of the Wild is the class book for rangers, druids & barbarians.  As with the other class books, it contains new feats, spells, prestige classes and organizations.
