May 16, 2003

Depressed by the loss of his sword, Kayunc went for a walk outside the moathouse and did not return. The group hopes he will be safe and return shortly.  The rest of the party decided to camp out and rest before heading downstairs.  Their sleep was interrupted by four hobgoblins.  Well, some of the group’s sleep was interrupted.  Devrik didn’t even wake up during the fight.  Wyatt, Artimus and Xavia dispached the hobgoblins readily.

When morning broke, the group went back into the moathouse.  They were greeted by a hail of arrows from gnolls that had realized the dragon was gone and came upstairs.  The gnolls took up defensive positions around the courtyard and used the arrow slits in the rooms surrounding the courtyard to their advantage.  One of the gnolls was able to go downstairs and raise an alarm.  This brought two more gnolls up from the lower level, bringing the total to 8.  Again, the party dealt with them handily.  The most suspense was whether or not Devrik was going to make it on foot in time to attack an opponent.  Artimus continued to make good use of his polymorph self spell.

Weston’s Warriors cleared the upper level of the moathouse of opponents (again), and headed down the stairs.  There they encountered a ghast (on two separate occasions), three ghouls, a host of skeletons, more gnolls and a cleric. And plenty of doors.  Wyatt could be heard muttering something about “too many doors” and kept making reference to a “sunless citadel”.  In the room  with the cleric and gnolls, the group found a number of items they were not able to identify, some of them apparently magica.  They then found Spungoir, Hommlet’s potion maker, hiding in one of the storage rooms.  He had been trapped in here since the dragon had come.  It seems that the clerics and their forces had been trapped in here as well.  Spungoir told the group what he had overheard from the clerics regarding an important find and agreed to show the party how to get their.  On the way they found one of the cleric’s journals.  The journal made reference to a Church of All-Consumption and to the Elder Elemental Eye.  It also appears that there are some followers of the Elder Elemental Eye hiding in Hommlet.   The journal talked about a hidden obelisk, which must have been the find that Spungoir overheard them speaking of.

At the entrance to the chamber where the clerics had found something, the party battled two clerics, one human, the other a troglodyte.  Defeating them, they prepared to descend down on the platform/pulley that seemed to serve as an elevator.
